TATE BRITAIN

.MIKE NELSON.
I became particularly captivated by Mike Nelson's 'Coral Reef' at the Tate Britain when I went to see it at the start of summer. He really created an atmosphere that interacts with the viewer and makes them feel unaware of there surroundings. When I first saw it I became confused about my surroundings as I didn't know how to get out, its dark and an unusual situation compared to what we'd usually expect in a house - It reminded me of a crack den or something. It forces the viewer to interact by walking around and trying to get out of the installation. He also repeats some of the rooms to confuse the viewer.
Today I went to go and see Mike Nelsons Coral reef again, even though I hadnt been there in months, it was a completely different experience as I was a lot calmer and didn’t have the urge to find the exit.
After seeing Mike Nelsons coral reef at the Tate Britain, I’v decided to venture on to find an abandoned place - so I can take some photographs of the impact of where people once were. I’ve found an abandoned asylum, I will be crazy scared going there. I’m gonna take my boyfriend for company! Wish me luck!

It took me a while to decide on what I wanted to look at in my current project. I have finally developed a few ideas which I worked on in my FMP during my FAD. I previously looked at delusions, which led me to look into body image and awareness of space/atmosphere. I want to look into the idea of abandoned buildings - environments that have been left behind - where people have also left a distinct impact on the place. Leaving a trace.
