working towards our exhibition...

As my group (Emily, Rosie, Anwar, Maurcee and Myself) have been working towards an exhibition - we have finally found a Gallery space!!
The Sassoon Gallery, which is underneath a railway arch in Peckham Rye. This space looks perfect for the type of gallery we wanted to show our exhibition in. Even though it is a Gallery space, it isn't just a square room and I think it will be pretty challenging to set up and make it work as a space.
It is also a reasonable price too, which is GREAT

I found this looking through my old photos from when I last went to the Saatchi Gallery, created these sculptures by creating a mould where she dug out these shapes using her body. if you look closely to these sculptures they have marks of her hands, fingers, feet and other body parts. The gestures show how someone is trying to get out and displays the presence of a body. These are really beautiful and striking - when we look close they seem almost delicate even though looking at them they're surely bold and heavy.
Even though I was first struck by the method she used to produce these, I also love the outcome of the shape. I think I would look to making something of a similar shape getting smaller towards to top?

KALRA BLACK

The layers developing from my work with fibreglass also reminds me of this piece of work by klara black. Although this is a lot more constrained compared to what I'm working with at the moment. This has the idea of layering and also the colours seem to show a good relationship to what I'm trying to investigate.

something developing in my studio...., this is the progress of my sculpture so far. Although I'm not sure how it is going to grow over time. At the moment it does look very dark I'm pretty disappointed in the lack of pinky fleshyness to it.
I want to look towards creating some form of sculptural shape experimenting with fibreglass insulation - developing the idea of layers.

mainly using fibreglass insulation - although I found out they don't sell pink fibreglass in the uk (its a us trade mark which is typical) so looks like ill deal with some rough looking colour stuff for the time being - just to experiment with the actual material and possibilities it has.

Heather Ramsdale

I can across this amazing artist who uses fibreglass insulation to create sculptural pieces. Using it to create flesh like material. I would never of thought of using fibreglass as a sculpturing material. This fibreglass being pink has worked well, as its naturally different colours so it appears more organic rather than being block colour.

eva hesse

These almost remind me of strains of hair or almost intestines.

I really love Eva Hesse's use of material throughout her artwork, using latex, fibreglass and plastics. A lot of her work to me represents presence of the body - this is a lot to do with the use of plastic/latex material as it appears similar to skin in colour and material.
